Anthropological Landscape

These pictures tell the story of mountaineer pride at WVU. On the campus of WVU students wear gold and blue all the time to show their pride for their school. It is not uncommon for someone decked out in gold and blue to shout "Lets Go!" at a person passing by representing the colors, only to the expect the proper response of "Mountaineers!".

I choose to photograph this particular place because of all the gold and blue representation. This is the book exchange, a popular place for students and parents to buy WVU clothing and accessories. The caption tells the whole point in these pictures. It tells that the theme was WVU pride in their colors. Without the caption there would be little meaning in the pictures.
What didn't work for me in this assignment was finding things to photograph that told a story. It was hard coming up with an idea that would fit for this assignment and that would be possible. Next time i would spend more time going out and looking for an idea rather than spending time trying to think of one.

Window Light Assignment

Tripp is a 19 year old from Martinsburg WV. He is a freshman at WVU and is currently a journalism major. He possibly wants to major is multimedia journalism and international studies. He volunteers at the campus radio station, U 92, to gain experience. Something that i found interesting about Tripp was that he is a medical vegetarian. He was born with a genetic disorder called phenylketonuria or pku that affects one in every 10,000 people. This disorder prevents him from eating proteins. Although he says this disorder is a burden to his life and manages his disorder and lives a normal college life.

W. Eugene Smith

We watched a documentary on  William Eugene Smith in my photojournalism class. He was a dedicated and talent photographer. His pictures were amazing, but he himself seemed to be a little crazy. He gave up his personal life for the pursuit of the perfect picture. I want to work in this industry someday, so I hope that the dedication and sacrifices he made aren't what it takes to be successful. Im prepared to work hard, but not give up my life.
